Timbers are last minute losers The Portland Timbers played 90 minutes of quality soccer on Saturday night, but unfortunately fell a few minutes short of a positive result. The Colorado Rapids scored the game's only goal in second half stoppage time and left Jeld-Wen Field with a 1-0 win. The Rapids also sweep the season series with Portland, as they handed the Timbers a 3-2 defeat in the franchise's MLS debut in March...

Timbers Bits – Road Trippin The Timbers travel to the city of Angels to play Chivas USA on Saturday at 7:30pm. The Timbers are coming off their first home loss, while Chivas had two draws with Columbus 3-3 and the Whitecaps 1-1 in the past week. This Saturday's match will be the goats third in eight days. The faithful have good reason to hope for the Timbers first win on the road. Chivas has only one win at home at Home Depot Park with a 1-3-2 home record. Chivas is one of a few MLS teams that has a better record on the road (2-1-3) then in their home ground. Kelley from Timbers Insider gives you a training update from yesterday and there was good news abound as Futty will stay with the squad instead of going to The Gambia for international duty and the Pores had their first child. That's news that could make anyone smile. Video interview with Spencer and players included.

Timbers Bits – Midweek Update We earned a solid result on Saturday as Futty and Jewsbury hooked up again in a moment of deja vu. Seattle's coach gave a long list of excuses, which led to Spencer giving a strong response after training yesterday. The stakes just got bigger for the July 10th match at Jeld Wen between the two sides. There was no reports of major incidents at Qwest Field between supporters as Seattle Police is reporting that there were no arrests and the Sounders Front office also was pleased. It is good to see that the reporting of the match was focused solely on the intensity of the match and the passion of the supporters. Just how it should be.

[12 May 2011 | Comments Off on Player Performance Index: How did your Timbers Rate? | 1,331 views]
Player Performance Index: How did your Timbers Rate? Castrol (lube company owned by BP) sponsors a player performance index that has been used by some of the top leagues in Europe for the past few years and now has come to MLS. They use all kinds of high tech stuff to rate every player's performance in every match and give you a simple number to judge for yourself (read an FAQ of how they decide on MLSSoccer.com). Thierry Henry tops the list, followed by two players we won't see for the rest of the season Steve Zakuani and David Ferreira. The Timbers top man is Rodney Wallace who comes in at 22. Match Day Fix – 5.3.2011 I'm a little late with the fix today, but here it goes anyway. The Timbers face old NASL Rivals San Jose Earthquakes tonight at Jeld Wen Field at 7:30pm in a US Open Cup Qualifier. This match is for a play in spot in the US Open Cup Tournament. This is a must win situation for both teams, because a loss here would drop you out of any chance to play in the tournament. If the Timber win they would then face the Chicago Fire at home for a final spot in the US Open Cup.

Quick Restarts The Timbers dropped the unbeaten Real Salt Lake 1-nil on Saturday. It was the first loss of the season for RSL and it was the first clean sheet in league play for the Timbers. Salt Lake looked tired and at times uninterested in match going on around them. This was apparent when the Timbers were awarded a free kick. Jewsbury quickly restarted as he noticed Salt Lake was paying any attention and the most dangerous man on the field Kalif was making a run. The short pass to Kalif was beautifully handled and crossed perfectly into the box where Cooper easily redirected into the net. RSL keeper Nick Rimando couldn't do anything about it other than yell at his players after wards.
